<address>

The <address> element provides contact information for its nearest <article> or <body> ancestor. This might be a person, organization, or the author of the page, and typically includes things like an email, physical address, or social media link. It is not meant for arbitrary postal addresses that are not related to page authorship — use a plain <p> for those.

Best practices

  • Only use <address> for contact information related to the page or article author, not arbitrary postal addresses
  • It is fine to include a physical address, email, phone number, or social links inside <address>
  • Do not nest headings, sectioning elements, or other addresses inside <address>
  • Browsers render <address> content in italics by default — override with CSS if that does not fit your design
